In Memory of Emmett Barkley 1939-2023
This is a rapidly assembled collection of pictures of my brother-in-law, Emmett Barkley. They are assembled here for family members to review and use. Unlike most of the galleries on this web site, many of these pictures were not taken by me. In particular, there are many images from others that I used in preparing a 50th anniversary slide show for Lani and Emmett. And there ae a number of shots taken by Lani on their trip to Susanville, the town where we spent our early years.
Emmett was a force in my life for seventy years. We grew up in the same extended neighborhood and went to the same church. He was my Senior Patrol Leader in the Boy Scouts, I used to be his substitute deliverer of his Evening Star paper route, and he bequeathed it to me (a very productive gift!) when he was ready to move on. (Perhaps to demonstrate his kindness to Lani, whom he was attempting to court.) They married after Lani's sophomore year at Duke and he became a permanent part of my life.
He was a man of brilliance, kindness, honor and humor. He will be missed.
