The effect of "Aperture" and the Resulting "Depth of Field"
We moved a bit closer and took this shot with some tree branches in the edges of the picture. This makes for a nice framing of the image. But, the closer parts (the leaves) are out of focus. The image was shot at an "aperture " of f/6.3, which lets in plenty of light, so the exposure was only 1/800 of a second. But such a "wide aperture" gives a small "depth of field."
